The Survey of Main Surgical Diseases Recorded for Ten Years before and after the Emancipation of Korea


Abstract
1. In this subject the writer has made a statistical observation of tuberculosis, non-specific imflammatory diseases, tumors and trauma of 5,233 patients admitted to university during the year between 1939 to 1948, namely in the past ten years.
2. Tuberculosis is in close connection with our daily life and has showed the tendency of increase with the progress of the world war H ; with the termination of the war it is on the decrease. The second decade of life is best afflicted.
3. The non-specific inflammatory disease in its frequency is top-seated among surgical maladies: appendr citis and myositis most frequently occur in the second decade of life, acute peritonitis in the third deca de and acute ostemyelitis in the first decade of life.
4. Cancer occupies 68 patients of all tumors and is most prevalent in the fifties, while sarcoma most fre
quently afflicts those of twenties; female has showed to be more frequently afflicted than male.
5. In comparison with Japanese, Korean has shown two times of trauma-frequency which has the tendency
of decrease during the war, the curve with explosive rising with the end of the war.
